2024 Brake Safety Week

Brake Safety Week

on Monday, August 26, 2024 in Company News

August 25-31 is the CVSA’s Brake Safety Week. During this annual event, commercial vehicle inspectors will be conducting unannounced inspections on brake systems of large trucks and buses throughout North America.

Like Road Check Week, Brake Safety Week aims to make our nation’s highways safer and decrease accidents on the road. Read on to learn about the focus of this year’s Brake Safety Week and how TMC’s drivers are preparing for it.

What Do Inspectors Look for During Brake Safety Week?

It comes as no surprise that inspectors will be most interested in commercial vehicles’ braking systems during Brake Safety Week. In particular, the focus of 2024’s Brake Safety Week is brake linings and pads—but those definitely won’t be the only components that inspectors will check. CVSA-certified inspectors take a comprehensive look at all parts of a truck’s braking system to spot any current or potential issues.

TMC’s Drivers Are Ready for Brake Safety Week

During 2023’s Brake Safety Week, more than 18,00 drivers had their vehicles’ brake systems inspected. Roughly the same number of drivers can expect to face an inspection in 2024, and there’s a good chance that some of those will be drivers in TMC’s Black and Chrome fleet.

At TMC, we work to make sure our drivers are always ready for inspections, during Brake Safety Week and throughout the year. As part of our industry-leading training program, drivers learn to perform their own pre-trip inspections to check the condition of their trucks before every trip, including their brake systems, so they can spot any problems and get them fixed as soon as possible. The skilled maintenance technicians at all our terminals regularly repair a variety of mechanical issues to ensure that our drivers are safe on the road.

TMC Keeps Safety Top of Mind

You can see our commitment to safety in every aspect of our operations, from our drivers’ pre-trip inspections to the care our technicians take with their repairs. As a company, we’re always looking for new ways to help our drivers stay safe, including launching our new “Safety: That’s My Culture” campaign, which provides videos and tips to help drivers keep safety a top priority. At TMC, safety is truly part of our culture—during Brake Safety week and beyond.
