Are You Ready for Operation Safe Driver Week?

on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 in Company News

July 7-13 is Operation Safe Driver Week, an FMCSA initiative to reduce unsafe driving practices by both commercial drivers and private motorists.

Like International Roadcheck Week, it’s a time when the FMCSA tries to improve the safety of our nation’s roads through a combination of driver education and increased enforcement. Read on to learn more about what Operation Safe Drivers means for all motorists and how TMC drivers are preparing for it.

What Is Operation Safe Driver Week?

During Operation Safe Driver Week, law enforcement officers are focused on issuing warnings and citations for unsafe driving. This year, the focus is reckless, careless, or dangerous driving.

How is this different from International Roadcheck Week? Because the focus is on driver behavior, law enforcement officers won’t be waiting at vehicle scales the way they are during Roadcheck. Instead, they’ll be out on roads and highways, keeping an eye out for unsafe driving practices in action.

With 2024’s emphasis on reckless, careless, and dangerous driving, officers will be on the lookout for drivers who are not showing proper care or paying attention to safety, for themselves or those around them. They will be issuing citations and warnings for behaviors like:

  • Speeding
  • Distracted driving
  • Following too closely
  • Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol

And it’s not just commercial drivers who could find themselves getting pulled over during Operation Safe Driver Week. Law enforcement officials will also issue warnings and citations to private motorists who aren’t demonstrating safe driving practices.

TMC’s Focus Is Safety—Every Week

TMC is known throughout our industry for our dedication to safety, and we just launched a new safety campaign to make sure that it’s always top of mind for every employee-owner.

Our drivers are some of the safest in the transportation industry, and TMC is proud of everything they do to get home safely, every week. During weeks of increased enforcement like Operation Safe Driver Week, our drivers know what to do: follow the law, keep their eyes on the road, and make safe choices behind the wheel.
