TMC's Driver of the Quarter: Richard Vaughn

Richard Vaughn has been named TMC’s Driver of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2024. Congratulations, Richard!

A TMC driver for more than 18 years, Richard joined the company when he was looking to start a new career as a truck driver. He says he has stayed with TMC because he has felt respected by the company. “A good company that respects you will help you when you need something, and TMC has always helped me, whenever I had issues or I needed time off,” Richard says. “I liked what I was shown at TMC, and I have respect for everyone I work with.”

Prioritizing Patience

Over his time with TMC, Richard has achieved more than two million safe miles, without any preventable accidents. He says that patience is an important part of being successful as a driver. “You have to have a lot of patience,” he says. “You have to keep learning day to day, learning from your mistakes. There’s more and more to learn out here every day. You don’t become a pro overnight. It takes years of dedication and hard work.”

He encourages new drivers to bring a similar mindset of patience and dedication to the job. “Take your time,” he says. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Don’t halfway do something. Don’t get frustrated or mad. Do everything by the book, the best you can do it.”

The Value of Consistency and Hard Work

This approach to driving is certainly part of why Richard has been recognized as Driver of the Quarter, says Brent Holtkamp, his fleet manager. “His consistency of being so dependable for so long has made him a Driver of the Quarter,” Brent says. “The numbers prove his value to TMC, but what truly distinguishes him from the rest is his incredible attitude. Trucking isn’t an easy job, and when faced with challenges and adversity he is always understanding and easy to work with. I love working with him and look forward for the years to come. It’s awesome to see someone so deserving be recognized for his hard work.”

Operations Manager Kevin Murphy agrees that Richard’s consistency and dedication to his job are truly remarkable. “Ritchie does a great job every single day,” Kevin notes. “We can always count on Ritchie to get the load there safely and on time, and he is a great representative of TMC.”

From Linehaul to a Dedicated Route

After driving linehaul for 12 years, Richard has driven a dedicated route for the past six years. TMC’s dedicated routes provide guaranteed service to customers to help their business run more efficiently, and they also may offer drivers the opportunity to be home more often—which Richard says he has definitely enjoyed. “I have two wonderful kids and six grandkids," he says. "When I’m not on the truck, I’m with my family. Family comes first for me. I have to come home safe for my family.”
