On Wednesday, January 8, Brant Ness—service manager at TMC’s Joplin, Missouri, terminal—received the prestigious Patriot Award from Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an office of the Department of Defense. The award recognizes the extraordinary support that both Brant and TMC have shown to employees serving in the National Guard and Reserve and their family members.
Brant was nominated for the award by diesel technician Brian Kackley, a staff sergeant in the Air National Guard, who says that the support he receives at work allows him to balance his civilian career and his service to our country. “You know, if [TMC is] strict on me, not giving me leave, then it’s hard for me to do my job serving the country,” Brian says.
The Patriot Award was presented to Brant at the Joplin terminal by Col. (Ret.) Steve Vanderhoof, Missouri ESGR Area 4 Chair. The ceremony was attended by Executive Vice Presidents Mike Duffy and Matt Paige, who had flown down from TMC's Des Moines headquarters.
TMC has a longstanding commitment to employing and supporting military veterans and active members of the Guard and Reserve. More than 35% of our workforce—including members of executive leadership—have served in the military, and their skills and experience have played a key role in our company’s success.
According to Tom Krahenburl, ESGR Missouri Chair, "The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation's call to serve. Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation's National Guard and Reserve units."
Congratulations to Brant on receiving this award! We’re so proud of how he demonstrates TMC’s commitment to honoring and supporting veterans and active members of our armed forces.
