Ron Hughes Named Trainer of the Month for December 2016

Ron is a seasoned driver that has been training for TMC Transportation for nearly five years. He currently has trained 24 inexperienced, new drivers in his truck. His retention percentage alone speaks volumes to the quality of his training.

Ron has adopted a more hands-on training style. “I start off showing them how to do things, then let them take over,” Ron explains. “I want my trainees to learn to do everything safely and the right way.” 

“Ron keeps communication lines open with his guys. He says he will always be their trainer even after the training period has ended, and is willing to help them in any way he can,” says Training Coordinator Manager, Jeff Geist.

Ron also keeps in touch with his former trainer. “It’s the same way with my own trainees; they can call me day or night with any questions or just to talk,” says Ron.

Driver trainers are vital to the TMC Training department, and each month a trainer is chosen who demonstrates the outstanding qualities TMC looks for in a trainer. The Trainer of the Month recipient is chosen based on their safety record and the safety performance of their trainees, the number of drivers trained and the retention percentage of those drivers.
