TMC is proud to announce that Jon McDowell has been named Driver of the Quarter for the fourth quarter of 2024. Over his time with TMC, he has achieved an impressive 1.7 million safe miles and 14 years of safe driving. Congratulations to Jon on this great accomplishment!

A Lifelong Driver

Jon is a career truck driver. “I drove a truck right out of high school, and I just worked my way up,” he says. He has been an over-the-road driver since 1999 and has made a career for himself in this challenging field.

Jon enjoys working as a driver, he says, because “I like to see the country.” In particular, he likes driving through the Midwestern states, like Iowa and Nebraska, as well as Southern states like Arkansas and Kentucky.

Building a Career at TMC

Jon joined TMC in 2010—largely because of our trucks, he says. TMC is known throughout the industry for our clean, well-maintained fleet of black and chrome trucks, and they caught Jon’s attention. “The trucks always looked nice, new,” Jon says. At, TMC we pride ourselves on providing our drivers with the best equipment possible, and this appealed to Jon.

He also noticed TMC trucks at several places where he picked up loads, and this also gave him confidence that driving for TMC was the right choice. “Wherever I went to pick up, they were there at the same shipper that I was,” Jon notes. “And I figured, if they have that many trucks, they must have work.”

Getting the Job Done

Over the past 15 years, Jon has built a reputation at TMC as a self-sufficient, self-motivated driver who gets the job done the right way, every time, says Operations Manager Chris York: “Jon was assigned to my board very early in my fleet manager career, and he just did his job. He has always kept to himself and really only talked when the job required. With that being said, he verifies if there are issues and communicates what needs to be done. He is very self-sufficient and rarely has issues that he cannot resolve on his own.”

Jon is a man of few words who takes his job seriously and always does his best on the road. When asked about his advice for new drivers, his response is simple, clear, and to the point: “Don’t get hurt, don’t get in a wreck, and pay attention to what you’re doing. That’s pretty much the bottom line, the way I look at it.” This mindset has served Jon well over his time with TMC.

Jon’s fleet manager, Chad Gurney, agrees. “Jon is a great driver. I know I can always count on him to get the job done and let me know if he has any problems on the road. He is quiet and low key, but he is one of the most dependable drivers on my board, and I appreciate his commitment to doing things right.”

Chris says that Jon’s quiet, careful approach to the job makes it easy to rely on him. “I can count on Jon to get any task I assign to him completed on time and professionally,” he says. “Jon is a great example of how to be successful as a driver and is willing to share information or help anyone that asks.”

Congratulations to Jon for being named Driver of the Quarter! TMC is proud to recognize such an outstanding, dedicated driver with this award.
